Called to Serve: A Post-9/11 Toile Wallpaper

Called to Serve: A Post-9/11 Toile Wallpaper

A modern toile de Jouy that tells a true story. Created for the Warhawk Air Museum's Global War on Terror Wing, this wallpaper trades the pastoral scenes of traditional French toile for hand-illustrated vignettes honoring the men and women who served in the Global War on Terror. Woven throughout are quiet symbols and hidden details — small "easter eggs," each one placed with meaning. Available as peel and stick, pre-pasted, PVC-Free Type II (a USA-milled, PVC-free substrate), and commercial vinyl.

About This Design

Drawn in the tradition of toile de Jouy — the classic French scenic wallpaper — but reimagined as a work of remembrance. Where antique toile fills its repeating framework with idyllic countryside scenes, this design fills that same framework with imagery that tells the story of Global War on Terror and the men and women who served.

Look closely and you'll find details woven into the pattern — instantly familiar to anyone who lived it:

  • The A-10 Thunderbolt II — the beloved "Warthog" — captured mid-run, a nod to the unmistakable BRRRT of its cannon
  • A Forward Operating Base (FOB) set against the desert
  • A Chinook helicopter lifting a Humvee
  • A Bradley Fighting Vehicle on the move
  • A soldier alongside a HESCO barrier
  • A Blackhawk helicopter with its crew preparing to launch
  • A K-9 unit on patrol
  • The Iraq and Afghanistan campaign medals

Rendered in a pale sepia on light cream. Originally designed for the Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa, Idaho, this is the retail version, offered without the museum logo. A custom version with your own crest or logo is available through custom work.
